Scientist Killed in Lab Explosion

A New York scientist was killed over the weekend in a laboratory explosion that sparked a blaze requiring the intervention of two fire brigades. Initial reports indicate that officials do not suspect foul play, but instead believe it was a lab error.

Apparently the explosion came while the scientist was in the final tuning phases of his Irony Detector. The explosion occurred on Monday. Witnesses reported that the scientist, Wayne Szalinski, had told witnesses that he planned to tune the machine while listening to respected community leader Reverend Al Sharpton’s interview with radio bad-boy Don Imus.

“It was an awful mess,” detective Lenny Briscoe said. “I’ve never seen anything quite like it. We’re still not sure what set it off.”
